When purchasing little baby gifts and toys its easy to be overwhelmed by the choice of fluffy little characters, rattles or cuddly critters to choose from.
But it is possible to choose a baby gift a cut above the rest if you’re looking for the maximum benefit for the baby as well as just a nice present to give.
The “sameness” of baby toys comes from the common objectives of the manufacturers. Bright colours engage and attract a baby’s attention. So do noises such as little bells, rattles and crinkles. Ideally a cuddly toy will also have tags or a variety of different materials such as soft and fluffy, shiny and smooth, and crinkly and stiff. This helps the baby develop their sense of touch and provides tactile stimulation.
Balls and soft blocks are an old favourite, but those with letters printed on them may help the baby to recognise these symbols later on.
Finally, always choose a dedicated baby toy that’s soft and made from safe materials.
